Echarter recused himself because he has distant family connections withthe plaintiff'as attorney Bob Martinez of Colson Hicks He said he was made aware of the connection in a filing this week by Martinez that revealed the judge'x mother is cousins with Martinez sister-in-law. The case has been reassignedc to Judge JeriBeth Cohen.
Braman is suing the city of Miami-Dade County and the Marlins, alleging that the funding plan is Government officials denythe allegations. A spokesman for the courrt said the case would be reassigned toanother division.
