Redevelopment proposals for the five city bloclkThomas C. Green Wate Treatment Plant and the adjoininv Austin Energy Control Center will be presented to the Austi City Council onMay 22. The two properties totall about 6.1 acres. Public presentations by the five firms that have submittedd redevelopment proposals will begin at1 p.m. at City Hall durinyg the City Council's regular Thursday The five firms that have submitted proposals to purchase and redevelopthe soon-to-be decommissioned plantg include: Cleveland, Ohio-based Forest City; Austin-based ; Denver-basesd ; Dallas-based Co.; and Austin-based .
The proposals vary significantly in visiojnand scope, but all call for aboug 1,000 apartments and condos, and hundreds of thousands of square feet of retaipl and office space. Proposed components include a two-story HEB groceryy store, with acting as a limited partnet inthe project; a movie theater; a bookstore; a 250-unir senior assisted living facility and a waterfrongt art park. The firma will provide informational displays in the lobbt of City Hall for public viewing throughMay 30. Visitorse may submit comments duringthat time.
Information aboutg the proposals will also be on the cityof Austin'sw Seaholm District Web site with opportunit to provide comments at The Seaholmm redevelopment is a $117.22 million mixed-use redevelopment led by that was approved by City Councipl in April. City leaders have said the Seaholm redevelopmen t and the Green Water Treatment Planf redevelopment will reinvigorate southwesf portionsof downtown, provide links from Cesaf Chavez to the city's traffic grid and extend the New Urbanisty vision of the city-financed Second Street Retail District.
The Seaholkm redevelopment calls fora 22-story 60 condo units, 130,000 square feet of office space and 50,000 square feet of retaipl and commercial space. The 150,000-square-foot decommissioned power plang will be the centerpiece ofthe 7.8-acrd property across Cesar Chavez Street from Lady Bird The City Council intends to select the winninv proposal for the Green Water Treatment Plantg in June and negotiated the sales price shortly after. The appraised value of the landis $55.5 The decommissioning and deconstruction of the plant is expecte d to be finished by February 2010, with constructiob beginning shortly after.
